Well, a lot has happened in the last four months! I found a school to attend where I am currently tak
ing the Holistic Healthcare Practitioner program. The school is GCNM out of California. This is a distance learning program and thus far (I started at the beginning of November) I am enjoying it IMMENSELY!! YAY!
SO, now that I've brought this blog up to speed, I thought I would start off the New Year with listing some Tips (thank Dr. Weil's Guide to Optimum Health for these, with some embellishment from yours truly) to stay positive, lower stress levels(who doesn't want that?!), and increase spiritual connectedness(this doesn't have to be religion, but that could come into play for some people!):
*These are in no particular order*
1. Buy and keep fresh flowers in the home. For some reason, this helps to make your home feel happier and fresh!
2.Spend time with people who make you feel good. This may be easier said than done, but if people are negative, it just goes without saying, that it is easier to become negative too.
3.Have your own "sanctuary" in your home with some of your favourite things. This doesn't have to be an entire room. Just an area or wall with your favourite things in it. This could be something that is easily set up and taken down too, if necessary!
4.Connect with nature and animals. I've heard that people that have pets live longer than people who don't! Ways of connecting with nature can be as simple as going for a walk to the more complex and longer time periods of going for hikes, biking, snowshoeing, camping, etc.
5.Be part of a social network. NO, this does NOT mean Facebook! This means have a club, church group, volunteering, a group of friends, a close knit family, etc. I have heard and stand behind this 100% that if you don't belong to a social network of sorts that it could be detrimental to your health.
6. Doing things for other people. Writing a cheque, while honourable and good, does not fill this need. You actually need to get up and serve other people. Give of your most valuable time and energy to help someone who needs it(whether they think they do or not!). Shovel a neighbour's driveway, mow their lawn, make your spouse breakfast in bed, volunteer for any organization, get your family involved in donating to the food bank, work a soup kitchen, babysit someone's children so they can do something together, the list goes on and on.
7.Learn how to deal with negative emotions and cultivate postive ones. This is one that I am still working on. Stay away from negativity!
So there you have it. Start the New Year off properly, with a big, loud positive BANG! Enjoy and live life to the fullest, you'll thank yourself for it later!
